SKC Academy Coach Bios

Jon Parry – Sporting Kansas City Academy DOC, U12s, U16s & U18s Coach

Parry joined the Academy program as the Director of Coaching in January of 2008 and has an impressive background in soccer. Parry has over 15 years of coaching experience and has worked alongside Peter Vermes for the past 5 years as the Director of Juniors for the Blue Valley Soccer Club. Prior to joining BVSC, he was the Head Coach for the Men's and Women's team at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas. His playing experience includes the 1996 United States FUTSAL Team which competed in the World Championships, the 1998 team that played in the Mundialito de Futsal Tournament in Brazil, eight years of professional indoor soccer in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) and the Continental Indoor Soccer League (CISL), and college experience at Rockhurst. He was an All-Star four times in indoor leagues and finished his career with over 400 goals scored. With 93 career goals, Parry is the second all-time leading scorer at Rockhurst.

Dave McKay – Sporting Kansas City Academy Head Fitness Coach, U12s, U16s & U18s Assistant Coach

McKay joined the Sporting KC Academy after completing a seven month internship as a fitness coach with the Sporting KC First Team and Academy. Originally from Ireland, McKay graduated from Colaiste Ide (Dublin, Ireland) Association Football Course. McKay went on to play four years of college soccer at Belhaven University in Mississippi (NAIA) where he graduated with a Sports Medicine and Exercise Science Degree. During his studies, McKay was a Coach at the Mississippi ODP and Fitness Coach at Florida Rush Soccer Club. He also volunteered as a Fitness Coach at Belhaven University and Holmes Community College (Mississippi). He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and a NCSA certified personal trainer. McKay has his USSF “B” coaching license and is looking to obtain his USSF “A” coaching license soon. He is also currently pursuing his Master’s in Applied Exercise Physiology at the University of Central Florida.


Matt Trumpp – U-14s Coach

Trumpp is a Kansas City native who played collegiately at Baker University after graduating from Olathe South High School in 2001. He was a mainstay in the Wildcats lineup, starting every game of his college career and leading the program to NAIA national tournament appearances in each of his final three seasons. Trumpp was a two-time All-Conference honoree and in 2004 received All-Region and All-American recognition for his stellar defensive play. As a senior, Trumpp was the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year and was also named Baker’s Student-Athlete of the Year. Most recently, he was inducted into the Baker Soccer Hall of Fame in 2009. Trumpp began his coaching career at Olathe East High School, assisting both the boys and girls programs, and has been on the boys coaching staff of the Blue Valley Stars since 2005. He led the BVSC U16 Boys to State Cup championship appearances each of the last two years and also won the 2011 State Cup in the U12 Boys division, while guiding the U15 Boys to a third-place finish. Trumpp lives in Gardner, Kansas and teaches in the Olathe School District.
