Jon Parry – Academy Director, U14 Head Coach

Jon Parry joined the Sporting KC Academy as the Director of Coaching in January of 2008 and has an impressive background in soccer. Parry has over 16 years of coaching experience and has worked alongside Peter Vermes for the many years as the Director of Coaching – Boys at Sporting Blue Valley. Prior to joining SBV, he was the Head Coach for the Men's and Women's team at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas. His playing experience includes the 1996 United States FUTSAL Team which competed in the World Championships, the 1998 team that played in the Mundialito de Futsal Tournament in Brazil, eight years of professional indoor soccer in the NPSL and the CISL, and college experience at Rockhurst. He was an All-Star four times in indoor leagues and finished his career with over 400 goals scored. With 93 career goals, Parry is the second all-time leading scorer at Rockhurst. Parry is currently the Executive Director of US Youth Futsal. Parry has his USSF A coaching license and is currently enrolled in the Elite Formation Coaching License through the French Football Federation.

Istvan Urbanyi – U18s & U16s Head Coach

Istvan Urbanyi comes to Sporting KC after a very distinguished playing and coaching career. Born in Hungary, Urbanyi played Defender & Midfielder for many Hungarian first division teams over a span of 15 years. Towards the end of his career, he played two seasons (1997 & 1998) with the San Jose Clash of MLS. In 1990, he twice played for the Hungarian National Team. After his playing career, Urbanyi turned to coaching. After beginning with Academy teams, Urbanyi quickly rose to become a highly regarded first team Manager in Hungary. For two years, he was the head coach of Ujpest FC, one of the most successful & historical clubs in Hungary. In 2009, he was named Manager of the Maldives National Team. He remained with the Maldives until the end of 2013 when Urbanyi joined the Sporting KC Academy in the spring of 2014. Urbanyi also has his UEFA Pro Coaching License.

Matt Trumpp – U12s Head Coach

Matt Trumpp is a Kansas City native who played collegiately at Baker University after graduating from Olathe South High School in 2001. He was a mainstay in the Wildcats lineup, starting every game of his college career and leading the program to NAIA national tournament appearances in each of his final three seasons. Trumpp was a two-time All-Conference honoree and in 2004 received All-Region and All-American recognition for his stellar defensive play. As a senior, Trumpp was the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year and was also named Baker’s Student-Athlete of the Year. Most recently, he was inducted into the Baker Soccer Hall of Fame in 2009. After starting his coaching career with Olathe East High School and Sporting Blue Valley, Trumpp has been with the Sporting KC Academy for three years. In his time with the SKC Academy, Trumpp’s teams have won five USYS State Championships with his 2012 team advancing to the Region II finals. Trumpp lives in Gardner, Kansas, teaches in the Olathe School District, and has his USSF B coaching license.

Dave McKay – Head Fitness Coach

Dave McKay joined the Sporting KC Academy in the fall of 2012 after completing a seven month internship as a fitness coach with the Sporting KC First Team and Academy. Originally from Ireland, McKay graduated from Colaiste Ide (Dublin, Ireland) Association Football Course. McKay went on to play four years of college soccer at Belhaven University in Mississippi (NAIA) where he graduated with a Sports Medicine and Exercise Science Degree. During his studies, McKay was a Coach at Mississippi ODP and Fitness Coach at Florida Rush Soccer Club. He also volunteered as a Fitness Coach at Belhaven University and Holmes Community College (Mississippi). He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and a NCSA certified personal trainer. He also has taken Master’s classes in Applied Exercise Physiology at the University of Central Florida. McKay has his USSF A coaching license and is currently working on his UEFA B coaching license.

Alan Mayer – Goalkeeper Coach

Alan Mayer comes to Sporting KC after a very impressive playing and coaching career. Mayer played college soccer at James Madison University in Virginia and was the team MVP all four years. He then played in the NASL with Baltimore, San Diego, Las Vegas (was teammates with Eusebio) & California. In 1978, he was named the NASL American Player of the Year. Mayer finished his career with multiple indoor teams including four years with the Kansas City Comets. He also earned six caps with the U.S. National Team in the 1970s. Mayer’s coaching career includes being an assistant coach with the Kansas City Wizards and an Indoor Soccer Head Coach in Las Vegas. Currently, Mayer is also the Goalkeeper Coach with UMKC & Missouri Comets (Indoor). Mayer started with the Sporting KC Academy in the spring of 2014.
