Jon Parry – Academy Director, U14 Head Coach

Jon Parry joined the Sporting KC Academy as the Director of Coaching in January of 2008 and has an impressive background in soccer. Parry has over 16 years of coaching experience and has worked alongside Peter Vermes for the many years as the Director of Coaching – Boys at Sporting Blue Valley. Prior to joining SBV, he was the Head Coach for the Men's and Women's team at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas. His playing experience includes the 1996 United States FUTSAL Team which competed in the World Championships, the 1998 team that played in the Mundialito de Futsal Tournament in Brazil, eight years of professional indoor soccer in the NPSL and the CISL, and college experience at Rockhurst. He was an All-Star four times in indoor leagues and finished his career with over 400 goals scored. With 93 career goals, Parry is the second all-time leading scorer at Rockhurst. Parry is currently the Executive Director of US Youth Futsal. Parry has his USSF A coaching license and is currently enrolled in the Elite Formation Coaching License through the French Football Federation.

Istvan Urbanyi – U18s & U16s Head Coach

Istvan Urbanyi comes to Sporting KC after a very distinguished playing and coaching career. Born in Hungary, Urbanyi played Defender & Midfielder for many Hungarian first division teams over a span of 15 years. Towards the end of his career, he played two seasons (1997 & 1998) with the San Jose Clash of MLS. In 1990, he twice played for the Hungarian National Team. After his playing career, Urbanyi turned to coaching. After beginning with Academy teams, Urbanyi quickly rose to become a highly regarded first team Manager in Hungary. For two years, he was the head coach of Ujpest FC, one of the most successful & historical clubs in Hungary. In 2009, he was named Manager of the Maldives National Team. He remained with the Maldives until the end of 2013 when Urbanyi joined the Sporting KC Academy in the spring of 2014. Urbanyi also has his UEFA Pro Coaching License.

Josh Gardner – U14 Head Coach

As a former Sporting KC Player himself, Josh Gardner brings an special dynamic to the Sporting KC Academy coaching staff. Gardner enjoyed a well-traveled career as a left-sided defender/midfielder with pro experiences at the LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, Carolina Railhawks (USL), Columbus Crew, Montreal Impact before finishing his career with Sporting KC in 2013 & 2014. Josh graduated from the University of Cincinnati where he also earned a callup to the USMNT U-20 team in 2003. After retiring from professional soccer, Gardner took up coaching at Sporting KC Academy Affiliate Sporting Blue Valley prior to being added to the SKC Academy staff in the fall fo 2015. Gardner also has his USSF A License.

Declan Jogi – U13 Head Coach

Declan Jogi joined Sporting KC Academy in the fall of 2015 with a strong reputation in developing young, technical players. Originally from Zimbabwe, Jogi played college soccer at King University in Tennessee and followed with a professional careet with the Charlotte Eagles of the USL and Acadia United & Dynamos FC in the Zimbabwe Premier League. After his player career, Jogi started coaching youth players in Eastern Tennessee with FC Fusion and FC Dallas TRI where he was the Director of Coaching for the Pre-K to U14 age groups. While in Tennessee, Jogi was on the state ODP staff and was named the Tennessee Boys Competitive Coach of the Year in 2014. Jogi also has his USSF B License.

Matt Trumpp – U12 Head Coach

Matt Trumpp is a Kansas City native who played collegiately at Baker University after graduating from Olathe South High School in 2001. He was a mainstay defender for Baker, starting every game of his college career and leading the program to NAIA national tournament appearances in each of his final three seasons. Trumpp was a two-time All-Conference honoree and in 2004 received All-Region and All-American recognition. As a senior, Trumpp was the HAAC’s Conference Player of the Year and Baker’s Student-Athlete of the Year. Most recently, he was inducted into the Baker Soccer Hall of Fame in 2009. After starting his coaching career with Olathe East High School and Sporting Blue Valley, Trumpp joined Sporting KC Academy since 2011. In his time with the SKC Academy, Trumpp’s teams have won 7 USYS State Cups with his 2014 team advancing to Nationals. Trumpp teaches in the Olathe School District and has his USSF B coaching license.

Josh McAllister – Academy Fitness Coach

Josh McAllister has a solid background in both sports science and coaching youth soccer. McAllister comes to Sporting KC from Drake University, where he was the Men’s Soccer Fitness & Assistant Coach for three years, and West Des Moines Soccer Club, where he was the U18-U15 Technical Director. Prior to both positions, McAllister interned with the Portland Timbers of MLS, where he assisted the First Team Fitness Coach and worked with their Academy teams. McAllister, who currently holds a USSF B License, has experience with Iowa State ODP for five years, Regional ODP for one year and was a Iowa State License Instructor for two years. McAllister also played college soccer at William Penn University before graduating at the University of Northern Iowa with a Degree in Exercise Science with an Emphasis in Coaching.

Alan Mayer – Academy Goalkeeper Coach

Alan Mayer comes to Sporting KC after a very impressive playing and coaching career. Mayer played college soccer at James Madison University in Virginia and was the team MVP all four years. He then played in the NASL with Baltimore, San Diego, Las Vegas (was teammates with Eusebio) & California. In 1978, he was named the NASL American Player of the Year. Mayer finished his career with multiple indoor teams including four years with the Kansas City Comets. He also earned six caps with the U.S. National Team in the 1970s. Mayer’s coaching career includes being an assistant coach with the Kansas City Wizards and an Indoor Soccer Head Coach in Las Vegas. Currently, Mayer is also the Goalkeeper Coach with UMKC & Missouri Comets (Indoor). Mayer started with the Sporting KC Academy in the spring of 2014.
