Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer among children and Sporting Kansas City is committed to supporting the fight against cancer in all its forms. Sporting KC players teamed up with Braden's Hope for Childhood Cancer, a foundation dedicated to finding a cure for this deadly disease, in efforts to raise awareness and bring hope to the lives of children battling the illness. Braden's Hope believes in Heroes Opening People's Eyes, and that is exactly what happened as  twelve Sporting Kansas City players posed with twelve inspiring heroes for a professional photo shoot at DeCloud Studios. The photos from the event are being compiled into the annual Heroes Opening People’s Eyes Calendar for 2013.

“Sporting KC has been a joy to work with and the players truly made the children featured in the calendar very happy,” said Deliece Hofen, founder of Braden’s Hope. “We are extremely grateful to Sporting KC for partnering with us on this meaningful project!”

The feeling was mutual as Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler said, "It was a lot of fun. My teammates and I really enjoyed the entire day, especially getting to know the kids more on a personal level. We were honored that Braden's Hope chose Sporting Kansas City to represent their fundraisor."

The 2013 calendars will be available for sale in mid-September on the Braden’s Hope website with all proceeds going towards cancer research. Take a look below for a sneak peak of some of the photos provided by DeCloud Studios:

Six of our own Sporting KC players and Wiley Curran smiled with their favorite furry friends for the Fuzzy Fotos KC fundraiser!  The online photo competition benefits the Kansas City Free Health Clinic and Great Plains SPCA.

Each vote consists of a $5 donation and you may vote as many times as you would like! The winner of the contest is awarded with their photo on a billboard as well as many treats for their pets, including grooming and goodie baskets.  We think it’s worth it and will raise money for thousands of patients and homeless pets in Kansas City.

Kei Kamara, Graham Zusi, Bobby Convey, Eric Kronberg, Chance Myers, Matt Besler and Curran know better than anyone that dogs really are a man’s best friend.  We think Chelsea, Vada, Lela Rose, Baci, Rambo, Gipper and Issa will agree. Check out the photos below and then click here to vote for Team Sporting KC. Thanks for your support as we support Great Plains SPCA!

On Wednesday, the Sporting 22 Class of 2012 officially got underway with a meeting for students and their parents at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. The students had a chance to meet and learn more about the community outreach program before the group of high schoolers embark on a seven-month span to activate their Sporting 22 programs in communities throughout Kansas and Missouri.

A big thank you goes to Sporting 22's presenting sponsor Teva Neuroscience and supporting sponsors Pepsi, the Kansas City Soccer Foundation and Garth Brook’s Foundation Teammates for Kids, who together will award each Sporting 22 class member a $2,000 scholarship.

We’ll showcase the Sporting 22 program and the good work these students are doing in our community so stay tuned! In the meantime, check out the photo album below to see images from the first gathering.
