International Preview: Joseph for Haiti v Guyana

By Jonathon Feyerherm

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Peterson Joseph has been called up to the Haiti National Team for 2012 Caribbean Cup qualifying. Haiti will play three matches with the top two teams out of Group 6 advancing to the tournament finals later this year.

Haiti's first match will be against Guyana on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 4 PM CT (6 PM local time in Grenada). Joseph is expected to be a significant role for Haiti as he started all three matches of the previous round of qualifying and recently had a strong performance for Sporting KC in the MLS Cup playoffs.

Haiti won all their matches in the first round of qualifying and are viewed as slight favorites against Guyana. Neither team has qualified for a World Cup in recent history or the last Gold Cup (in 2011). The two teams met in 2010 Caribbean Cup qualifying in the same round with the match ending in a scoreless draw.

The Guyana squad has a variety of players from leagues across CONCACAF but no players from Major League Soccer. Haiti has two players from MLS including SKC's Joseph and San Jose's Jean Alexandre.

It's not a requirement but a win in this match would put Haiti in great position to finish in the top two. They will face French Guiana (probably weakest team in group) next and conclude qualifying against hosts Grenada (toughest match of group).
