Sporting Kansas City homegrown defender Erik Palmer-Brown started and played 45 minutes for the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team on Thursday in the opening game of the 2015 Stevan Vilotic Tournament at Subotica City Stadium in Subotica, Serbia. The US U-20's fell 3-1 to the hosts Serbia, who won the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup earlier this summer.
The competition, held in honor of former Yugoslavia manager Stevan Cele Vilotic, features six teams in its 22nd edition with Israel, Ukraine, Montenegro and France rounding out the field. The United States will next face France on Friday in Senta, Serbia to set up a final placement match on Monday.
Palmer-Brown, 18, has appeared in nine matches for Sporting Kansas City across all competition since signing as a Homegrown Player in August 2013. He made his MLS debut in May 2014, becoming the youngest player to appear in an MLS match in club history.
The Lee’s Summit, Missouri native attended the prestigious U.S. Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida and has started in the Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game each of the last two years.

Sporting Kansas City is excited to announce a NEW early childhood soccer program SPORTING STRIPES. Children ages 2-5 years old will be engaged in an active learning environment while they learn the basics of soccer!
SPORTING STRIPES creates a safe and EXCITING experience for children to become acclimated and engaged with soccer at its earliest foundation. Our concepts go well beyond the game of soccer where your child will practice reaching basic early developmental milestones in socialization, emotional and physical development, as well as cognition and communication.
Games and activities outlined in the SPORTING STRIPES curriculum are based on the stages of cognitive development theories for toddlers and pre-school age. Your child will receive child-centered instruction from our staff who engage multiple learning styles: audio, visual and kinesthetic. Sporting Kansas City sits in fourth place in the Western Conference with 40 points and an 11-7-7 record with nine games remaining in the MLS regular season. A key contributor to the team's success this season is central midfielder Benny Feilhaber. The 30-year-old MLS veteran is having the best season of his career, tallying eight goals and 13 assists. Feilhaber's 13 regular season assists are second most in MLS in 2015 and a single-season career high for the UCLA product.
Feilhaber says a big motivator for his on-field success this season has been the birth of his daughter Sofia, but he credits the majority of his output to the exceptional performance of his teammates. FOX 4 anchor Jason Lamb sat down with Feilhaber to take an in-depth look at the record-setting season. Watch the full interview below...
Each year, MLS teams across the League work with their local Special Olympics chapters to host Unified Soccer games with other teams throughout the season. Unified Soccer pairs students with disabilities with neuro-typical students within their school.
The goal for this MLS WORKS initiative is for two clubs to commit to a home-and-away series of games throughout the season. In May, Sporting Kansas City and Special Olympics Kansas hosted the Colorado Rapids and Special Olympics Colorado in a Unified Soccer Match in Kansas City. This past weekend, the Kansas team traveled to Colorado for the second game in the series.
Upon arrival to Denver on Friday evening – the first airplane ride for several of the athletes – the two teams met for dinner at a downtown pizza restaurant, where the coaches and athletes were able to interact and talk about the upcoming match. On Saturday morning, the Kansas team took advantage of the beautiful scenery in the area and spent the morning at Red Rocks Amphitheater and Park where many of the students caught their first glimpse of the Colorado Rockies.
After a quick lunch, the team headed back to the hotel for some much-needed rest before making their way to Dick’s Sporting Good Park. Both teams watched the first half of the Sporting Kansas City versus Colorado Rapids match in the stands. During halftime, the two teams were introduced to the supporters in an on-field presentation before making their way to a team locker room set up to mirror what a professional athlete would experience.
When game time arrived, the two teams -- in full team kits -- took the field and played their hearts out in front of a large group of Sporting KC supporters who waved flags, banged drums and sang songs that are generally reserved for the professional team. At the conclusion of the game, each athlete received a medal and trophy to honor their participation in the event.

Sporting Kansas City forward Dom Dwyer scores his ninth goal of the regular season (assisted by Krisztian Nemeth) in the 47th minute at Dick's Sporting Goods Park against the Colorado Rapids.
You've seen them on the field, now watch them on the track.
Last year, Sporting KC winger Graham Zusi competed in Continental Tires' #WhatChaGotMLS series for the chance to win a Lamborghini. This year, Matt Besler and Dom Dwyer took their turn on the course.
On Sunday, FOX Sports 1 will debut Besler's episode following the New York Red Bulls / D.C. United Rivalry week match (kickoff at 6 p.m. CT). All fans are encouraged to tune in to see if Besler was able to top the course record. Currently, Philadelphia Union midfielder Maurice Edu leads the East with a time of 36.70 seconds, while LA Galaxy forward Gyasi Zardes leads the West with a time of 37.76 seconds.
So how can you win an autographed Sporting KC jersey? Easy. Correctly predict Besler's course time via Twitter and the person whose time is closest will take home the prize! Tweet @SportingKC and include hashtag #WhatChaGotMLS to be entered.
