POSTGAME QUOTES
Sporting KC at Montreal Impact
July 4, 2012 – Stade Saputo (Montreal, Quebec)

IMPACT COACH JESSE MARSCH

On Di Vaio’s performance…

I think he had a very good first half and found the game a bunch. He was very dangerous. We did well as a team to find him in transition. It’s a positive sign.

On the team’s performance after the two PK’s

I think that given everything, the team stayed focused on trying to push the game to the end. They could have gone crazy after that, but they didn’t…they continued to push.

On a good first half and getting the lead…

We got a lead. The first half we push hard and ultimately we get a lead. And then the game goes haywire. This loss hurts. Guys are disappointed as they put a lot into tonight’s game. I told them that if we play the way we did tonight, we will win a lot of games.

IMPACT FORWARD MARCO DI VAIO

On the game…

We deserved to win. If there was one team that deserved it more it was us. I couldn’t score in the first half, and we as a team couldn’t score in the first half. We deserved better.

Asked if in his experience he’s ever seen two PKs in a game…

It’s strange to see two penalties called in the same game, and it’s unfortunate because we deserved to win this game.

IMPACT MIDFIELDER DAVY ARNAUD

On his 5th yellow of the season…

It’s definitely frustrating. You don’t want to miss any games, but especially now when we’ve had some results that we haven’t liked and we need to get back on track. We got a team that will keep pushing forward and get back on track.

On his team’s play…

We came out in the second half and we got the goal. We didn’t stop. Our team wears its heart on its sleeves and we knew we should have been up at halftime. And then we all know what happened after that.

IMPACT FORWARD EDUARDO SEBRANGO

On coming in as a sub when your team is down…

It’s difficult, but you try to bring energy and something different. You have to be aggressive offensively. You have to try to get something going as you come on with fresh legs when your team mates may be a bit tired.

SKC HEAD COACH PETER VERMES

About the game...

I think tonight we had some issues in the first half. But in the second half we made the change. Even though they scored, our mentality was right. And because of the changes we made, we added the three goals.

Comparing to their last game...

We played a great game against Chicago this past weekend. We dominated the whole game. We had 27 shots, 37 crosses and 65% of possession in the game. Sometimes this kind of match happens.

About the penalties...

It’s not the ordinary thing to get two penalties on the road, but that happens. I think we deserved both of them. I saw the action and it was a hand ball. Unfortunately it is, but it happens to all of us in the game. And on the other play, the player wasn’t playing the ball. He tackled the man and you can’t do that.

SKC FORWARD KEI KAMARA

About the game...

It was one of those ugly games. But it’s finally about time when we can have an ugly game and then get points from it. So we’ll take the points back home and get back to what we’ve been doing.

About the season...

It’s been up and down. It’s a long season, you’re going to win some, you’re going to lose some, whatever way it’s gonna go. I’ll call it even with Montreal. They came to our place and they got points away from us. And then we come here and we get points. So now it’s all about us just looking forward. Every team we play now is in the Eastern conference so every single game is like a playoff game for us right now.

SKC DEFENDER AURELIEN COLLIN

About the game...

We didn’t play really well tonight. Montreal had more occasions in the first half. We got lucky today. We’re happy about the result, but not about our performance. We’re already thinking about our next game against Houston.

About what was different in the second half...

We changed our style defensively. We were more compact, did better pressure, so they didn’t get a lot of occasions. We were better at blocking the passes between the lines. And then when everybody started to get tired, we waited for them to play, played on our strength and won a lot of air balls and second balls.
