Career Summary
The 22-year-old native of Uruguay was selected in the third round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft out of North Carolina State University. After a strong showing at the MLS Player Combine, Martinez saw minutes in seven of Sporting Kansas City’s 10 preseason matches and contributed three assists.<br>

<strong>2014: MLS: </strong>Has played in nine games with three starts. Made his MLS debut on March 15 in a 1-1 draw vs. FC Dallas. Earned his first start for the club on May 23 in a 2-2 draw vs. Toronto FC. <strong>CCL:</strong> Has not featured. <strong>Open Cup:</strong> Played 64 minutes and scored his first career goal in a 2-0 fourth round win over Minnesota United FC on June 18. Played six minutes in a 3-1 fifth round loss to Portland on June 24.<br>

<strong style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">COLLEGE: </strong>Began his collegiate career at High Point University with 12 goals and four assists through his sophomore season. After being recruited to North Carolina State, he scored 13 goals and added 18 assists in two seasons for the Wolfpack as a First Team All-ACC honoree. Martinez also played for the Carolina Dynamo in 2013, recording four goals and five assists for the Premier Development League side. Earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management.<br>

<strong>YOUTH: </strong>Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Martinez moved to the United States at age nine and starred at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, S.C. He led the school to three state championships and a No. 1 ranking nationally in the ESPN and NSCAA polls en route to earning All-American recognition.<br>

<strong>PERSONAL:</strong> His older brother, Enzo, was drafted by Real Salt Lake in 2012 and now plays for the Carolina RailHawks in the NASL...engaged to his fiance Aubrey...bilingual in both English and Spanish...co-founded Kicking for a Cause to raise money for families in need...Uncle (Miguel Beltran) played for Nacional, a powerhouse in his native Uruguay.<br>
