Career Summary

2017: Made 15 total appearances for the Rangers in USL play, making his debut in the season opener – a 3-1 home victory over OKC Energy FC on Mach 25. He split his time playing center back and defensive midfielder throughout the campaign, and played every minute in the USL Cup Playoffs as the Rangers fell in the USL Cup Final. Barnathan also converted his penalty kick in the Western Conference Final against OKC on November 4.

College: Barnathan attended Virginia Commonwealth University and was drafted by FC Dallas in the third round (59th overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, but did not sign with the club. He made 80 appearances at VCU, tallying nine goals and eight assists for the Rams. He captained the side during his junior and senior seasons, helping guide the Rams to the A-10 Conference Championship match in 2015 and 2016. Barnathan was an All-Conference First Team selection as a senior, having also earned All-Conference Rookie Team honors in 2013. He left VCU with the second-most starts in program history with 72, eight behind Colorado Rapids defender Dennis Castillo. Barnathan the summers of 2015 and 2016 playing for the Portland Timbers Under-23 team in the USL Premier Development League. In 2016, he made six appearances for the Timbers, tallying two goals and one assist as captain of the side.
