Following a 2-1 win at home over Vancouver Whitecaps FC and a 3-0 midweek victory over Chicago Fire PDL in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Sporting Kansas City travels to face the Portland Timbers at 10:00 p.m. CT from JELD-WEN Field in Portland. The match will be broadcast live on KSMO-TV with coverage beginning at 9:30 p.m CT.

While Sporting Kansas City enter Saturday’s match unbeaten in their last seven regular season matches, Portland has not won since a 1-0 home victory on May 21st against the Columbus Crew. Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between the two sides in MLS play.

The Timbers (5-7-2), currently sitting in seventh place in the Western Conference, enter Saturday night’s contest coming off of a 4-0 loss on the road last weekend to FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park. The loss was the worst in the club’s short history and capped a month of June that saw the Timbers capture just one point from a possible 12.

Several players for both sides are struggling with recent injuries. Sporting Kansas City will be without midfielder Craig Rocastle, who recently underwent surgery to repair a right knee sprain. Captain Davy Arnaud will also miss out as the midfielder is set to undergo sports hernia surgery in Los Angeles on Wednesday and could miss up to six weeks of action.

For Portland, defender David Horst and midfielder Peter Lowry will both be unavailable for selection, while captain Jack Jewsbury is also a doubt after tightness in the midfielder’s left hamstring limited his participation in training this week. Horst is suffering from a hip flexor injury and a quadriceps strain will keep Lowry out of action on Saturday.

KSMO-TV will again air a 30-minute pre-game show hosted by play-by-play announcer Callum Williams, in addition to their weekly soccer show, ‘Off the Pitch’ with Sporting Kansas City, on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. CT.
