Sporting KC and Gillis launch 'Goals for Gillis'

Goals for Gillis

Sporting Kansas City announced Tuesday that the club has partnered with Gillis to launch Goals for Gillis, a program that will raise money to help at-risk children and families with every goal Sporting Kansas City scores throughout the 2012 season.

"Sporting Kansas City is honored to partner with Gillis,” Sporting Club CEO Robb Heineman said. “Gillis has done so much for children and families of Kansas City, and we are excited to help them continue to accomplish their goals.”

Fans can participate by making a pledge starting at $1 for every goal that Sporting Kansas City scores during the 2012 season. The top four Goals for Gillis fundraisers will be recognized online and at a special event with Heineman and Sporting Kansas City forward Kei Kamara after the completion of the 2012 season. Those pledging at least $5 per goal by April 30 will be entered to win an autographed, one-of-a-kind portrait of Kamara by local artist Jeffrey Barge.

“Gillis is thrilled and very grateful to have the privilege of the partnership and support of Sporting Kansas City,” Gillis president/CEO Mary Ellen Schaid said. “The players and the excitement they generate in their Goals for Gillis efforts are an inspiration for the children and families we serve who struggle with abuse and poverty to become productive members of our community. The positive energy and spirit that Sporting Kansas City brings to the entire community is truly a dream come true for Gillis.”

By emphasizing the collective power of individual actions, the Goals for Gillis pledge will allow Gillis to serve over 1,400 families each year through a family-focused, culturally sensitive system of care. Gillis is an organization that has proudly served Kansas City since 1870, and believes that a safe and permanent home and family should be the goal for all children.
