Sporting Kansas City Academy defender Erik Palmer-Brown is amongst an elite group of players in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy to be invited to participate in the 1996-97 Academy Select Game at the 2012 Winter Showcase in Bradenton, Fla. The Academy Select Game is considered an important part of the player identification and evaluation process for the Youth National Team program and will take place at 5:00 p.m. local time on December 1st on Field #11 at the Premier Sports Complex.


Palmer-Brown, a sophomore at Lee's Summit High School, was selected by the U.S. Soccer Scouting Network to play in the match and will be coached by a member of the U.S. Soccer National Team Staff. Though being born in 1997 and eligible to play at the U15 age level, Palmer-Brown is excelling with the Sporting KC Academy U18 team that is 6-0-0 and in first place in the Frontier Division. He joined the Sporting KC senior squad for a Reserve League match in June, playing 20 minutes against the Colorado Rapids.


He was recently named the Week 6 Player of the Week by U.S. Soccer in the Peak Performer section of Across the Academy and joined the U15 Boys National Team for their camp at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. in September. TopDrawerSoccer.com currently has him ranked as the #2 player in the Heartland region for the Class of 2015.


Last year, Joey Piatczyc represented Sporting KC in the 1996 Academy Select Game.
