Sporting KC tops MLS Power Rankings

Sporting KC tops MLS Power Rankings -

Sporting KC are top of the MLS Power Rankings after their impressive 2-1 victory at Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.

The win puts Sporting KC one point back in the Supporters Shield race and four points clear at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Sporting KC are #1 on ESPNFC.com, SI.com, Bleacher Report, Soccer America, and #2 on MLSSoccer.com.

Below are a few excerpts from the power rankings.

ESPNFC.com (Jeff Carlisle)

"For all the controversy surrounding the timekeeping late against RSL, additional stoppages due to a yellow card and restoring order on a corner kick meant Ike Opara's game winner appeared legit. SKC is now unbeaten in six."

SI.com (Avi Creditor)

"Sporting KC may have been without its center back anchor Matt Besler, but Ike Opara rose to the occasion once again when called upon to deliver the late heroics in helping the club knock off Real Salt Lake and tighten up the race for the Supporters' Shield. Even though he has been limited to just nine games, Opara has proven to be a valuable pick-up for Peter Vermes' deep squad, which has won three in a row and is unbeaten in six games."

"Solid argument for moving up all the way to No. 1, but we're still trying to figure out where that extra two minutes of stoppage came from. By PPG, this is the league's hottest team."
