Sporting KC trims preseason roster

Prematch - Sporting KC vs FC Tucson - February 1, 2014

With less than five weeks before Sporting KC begins their MLS Cup defense, Peter Vermes’ opening day roster is beginning to take shape.

Sporting KC opened preseason camp with a slew of players trying to make the roster of the defending MLS Cup champs. That number was cut by five on Friday ahead of Sporting KC’s preseason match against Indy Eleven.

Goalkeeper Jacole Turner, midfielders Pablo Punyed and Dante Marini and forwards Don Anding and Reinaldo Brenes were released on Thursday.

With Chance Myers having re-signed last week, Sporting KC now has 27 players under contract with three spots open as the club wraps up the first leg of their preseason campaign.

Friday's match against NASL club Indy Eleven kicks off at 3 p.m. CT. There is no stream of the match, but fans can follow the action on Twitter: @SKCGameday. For Sporting KC's complete preseason schedule visit SportingKC.com/Preseason.
