Dom Dwyer nominated for MLS Player of the Month

Sporting Kansas City forward Dom Dwyer has been nominated to MLS Player of the Month for May. The third-year striker scored six goals in seven games last month, tying him for most in MLS with New York Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips. Voting is currently open now at MLSsoccer.com.

Dwyer was the only player in MLS to record more than one multi-goal games during May. The British forward scored two goals in Sporting KC's 3-0 win over the Montreal Impact on May 14 then recorded two more against Toronto FC in a 2-2 tie on May 23. He sandwiched those performances with goals against the Philadelphia Union and Chicago Fire.

Dwyer's four-game goalscoring streak was the second longest all-time in club history behind Preki, who scored in five straight during the club's inaugural season.

Despite standing at 5-foot-9, Dwyer has proven to be a force in the air. He attempted 33 aerial duels in May, tied for sixth month MLS forwards, and won 13 of those duels, tied for ninth best among forwards. Dwyer also led all forwards with 10 shots on target in May, converting 60% of his attempts on frame.

Voting for MLS Player of the Month will be open until 1:59 a.m. CT, Thursday, June 5. The winner will be revealed later that day.
