Quotes: Sporting KC 0-1 San Jose Earthquakes - October 16, 2015

SPORTING KANSAS CITY HEAD COACH PETER VERMES

On match:
"I think it had a playoff feel. I think these games all do at the end of the season. Tempo was good. I thought both teams battled. They scored, we didn't. We had a couple very good chances as well - the header; the breakaway from Dom early. It was a good, hard-fought match."

On physicality of match:
"I think some calls could have been made. I think everybody would have calmed themselves down because that's the way it goes, but I thought the game got a little bit too loose at one point."

On losing both matches to San Jose:
"They battled well. I think the first time is a hard game to even discuss. We were completely fatigued but today was a good battle between both teams. I think we had good chances. Sometimes you score and sometimes you don't and that's the way it goes.”

SPORTING KANSAS CITY GOALKEEPER TIM MELIA

On match:
"I think we're obviously disappointed with the result. I think we picked it up in the last 30 minutes and we were pushing to get a result. We knew it was going to be difficult coming in here and we just got to move on."

On physicality of match:
“It's playoff time and everyone's competing. Everyone wants to win. All of these games are so important and our guys are going for it on every play and every tackle.”

On goal:
“I just don't think we shifted well collectively as a group defensively. When the ball is getting switched from one side to the other it's difficult to recover. Chris did a good enough job putting the ball across the box and [Godoy] made sure he finished.”
