Two teams looking to reverse recent runs of fortune go head-to-head Sunday when Sporting KC hosts Orlando City SC at Children's Mercy Park. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and a limited number of tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com. ESPN and ESPN Deportes will televise the contest nationally with local radio broadcasts on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM. We take a statistical look at the matchup in our By The Numbers preview...

Head-to-head

  • Sporting KC and Orlando City SC have met just once previously in MLS competition, with the Lions emerging 3-1 winners at home last September.
  • Orlando winger Adrian Winter scored a brace in last year's win over Sporting KC, while Benny Feilhaber assisted Krisztian Nemeth's goal for the visitors.
  • Sunday marks the first MLS match between the clubs at Children's Mercy Park, but Orlando City visited the stadium as a USL side in the 2012 and 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups. Sporting KC prevailed 3-2 in the 2012 Round of 32, with Paulo Nagamura and Orlando's Kevin Molino both scoring in the contest. A year later, Orlando City exacted revenge with a 1-0 Round of 16 victory.
  • Forward Kevin Molino and defender Luke Boden are the only current Orlando City players to appear in both of the club's U.S. Open Cup matches at Children's Mercy Park
  • Sporting KC last won on April 9, while Orlando City last won on April 3.

Orlando City SC

  • 2016 MLS record: 2-2-5, 11 points (5th in East)
  • 2016 MLS road record: 1-2-1 (6 GF, 7 GA)
  • Last five games: 0-2-3, 3 points (L-T-L-T-T)
  • Orlando is winless in five games (0-2-3), one short of equaling the club record set in their inaugural 2015 campaign.
  • Orlando is second in MLS with 1.78 goals per game (16 in nine) while ranking 14th in goals allowed per game (1.56).
  • Orlando has scored in all nine matches this season but has kept just one clean sheet.
  • Orlando leads MLS with five goals scored in the first 15 minutes, at least two more than any other team. Conversely, their eight goals allowed after the 60th minute are also most in the league.
  • Forward Kevin Molino is tied for the team lead with four goals, all coming in his last six appearances.
  • Forward Cyle Larin has also scored four times in 2016, having earned MLS Rookie of the Year honors with 17 goals last year.
  • Midfielder and Brazilian World Cup veteran Kaka has added two goals and two assists in just four appearances.
  • Midfielder Cristian Higuita leads MLS with 5.2 tackles per game, while defender Seb Hines ranks second with 6.2 clearances per game.

Sporting Kansas City

  • 2016 MLS record: 4-6-2, 14 points (7th in West)
  • 2016 MLS home record: 2-2-1 (6 GF, 6 GA)
  • Last five games: 0-3-2, 2 points (L-T-T-L-L)
  • SKC is 5-0-1 at home against Eastern Conference clubs since moving to the West in 2015.
  • SKC is on a seven-game winless skid (0-5-2), the club's longest since a 10-game slide in 2011.
  • During their winless run, SKC has out-possessed all seven opponents, out-shot six, and created more chances in six.
  • SKC has faced 10.8 shots per game, the fewest in MLS.
  • Defender Nuno Coelho leads MLS in minutes played (1,080) and successful passes (574) while ranking fifth in interceptions (41), seventh in blocked shots (nine) and 12th in clearances (44).
  • Midfielder Roger Espinoza ranks sixth in MLS with 466 successful passes and fifth with 37 tackles.
  • Forward Dom Dwyer leads MLS with 34 fouls suffered, at least seven more than any other player.

Milestones and Miscellany

  • Manager Peter Vermes is one shy of his 100th MLS coaching win (including playoffs). He would become the sixth coach in MLS history to reach the milestone with a single team.
  • Dom Dwyer is one shy of his 50th goal for Sporting KC in all competitions.
  • Matt Besler is exactly 90 minutes shy of reaching 20,000 minutes played for Sporting KC in all competitions.
