Quotes: Sporting KC 2-2 Montreal Impact - June 25, 2016

Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes

On the team coming back from a one-goal deficit twice…
"That was an important aspect. It showed a testament to fortitude on the guys part to be able to come back from 2 goals down. I thought we had quite a few chances. I think we could have even won it. Unfortunately, we didn’t have that aspect. I thought the guys were good. They worked hard to get it done."

On team's confidence going into the locker at the half…
"Yeah. I told the guys we're going to get more than one chance in the second half. We just have to be deadly. We have to be merciless in our finishing. Great two goals from Dom. The second goal was a great individual effort by him. He picked a great moment to hit it. I had a great view of it just inside the post. I knew we were gonna score and I knew we were going to get great chances. Just the question was how many are we going to put away. We deserved a point out of here for sure. Maybe even three. I haven't seen yet the foul on Benny from the first half. But from where I was standing, it looked pretty easy to call it as a penalty."

On the PK call against Jimmy Medranda…
"I've heard that everyone says that Jimmy didn’t even touch him. That he actually gets his foot on the ball first. I haven't seen that one either but I just think it's funny how it's so easy to call the foul on Drogba. But it's not easy to call the foul on Benny. That's the part that frustrates me as a coach in this league. Just because a player has a name, they get calls and that's not the way it should be. And don't get me wrong. Benny has a name. But, it's Drogba and I think he got preferential treatment on the field today. He stuck his finger in one of our players faces. That's not supposed to be accepted and he ran the show today."

On Chance Myers' status…
"Chance tweaked his hamstring during training right before we left. I went inside the training facility and realized how bad it was but we already sent Amadou Dia on loan with the USL team, so we went with 17."

Sporting KC striker Dom Dwyer

On his scoring secret again Montreal...
"I don't know to be honest. We played well today. We defended unbelievably. Drogba is world class and the first goal they scored was incredible. We worked side-to-side, the back four were incredible and it was just a good team performance today."

On his production specifically against Montreal...
"I think it's more coincidental. I'm here for a reason and that's to score goals. That's why I'm at this club and that's what I do as a player. I did my job tonight. Not quite enough to get us three points but I think we're pleased with our performance today."

On scoring the two goals and the impact on his confidence...
"Yeah. It's great. I've gotten quite a lot of criticism this year for my production. I think if you check, I'm ahead of where I was at last year at this point so I think we need to work on certain things as a team and the results are going to start falling our way."

On the result...
“It’s good to get a point on the road against a quality side. We had a few chances here and there and I think if we got three points tonight, it wouldn’t have been a shock result."

Sporting KC goalkeeper Tim Melia

On the performance
“I thought we did really well tonight. The first goal was a let down where I think we didn’t defend well enough as a team on that and left too many guys open. From that point on, we did a really good job.”

On the result
“You want to win every game, but coming into a place like this getting a point after being down twice is an effective performance.”

Montreal Impact Manager Mauro Biello

On the performance
“It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get the three points. On the attack, I thought again we showed a lot of promise. Defensively we lost concentration a bit and committed mistakes which they made us pay for.”

On conceding twice shortly after scoring
“After we scored, I was telling the players to stay concentrated and to manage the momentum. When an opponent concedes a goal, it’s normal that they’ll bring up their intensity levels. It’s up to us to also raise our intensity to manage it. It was too easy.”

On not being able to win recently
“If you look at the standings, we didn’t lose games. It’s frustrating because we haven’t gone to that next step just yet. I think that’s what we’re going to continue to work on and if we are able to we’ll start accumulating wins and points.”

Montreal Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush

On the outcome
“It feels like a disappointment as it seems we’re drawing every game now. We really wanted full points at home, but didn’t feel like we were smart enough at the end to be able to get the win.”

On conceding goals
“I don’t think it’s necessarily only a defensive problem. A lot of times our defenders are caught in bad situations because of things that happen in the middle of the field where we shouldn’t lose balls. Guys then aren’t tracking back and it becomes hard for our defenders.”

Montreal Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier

On not getting the win
“We got back to the locker room and felt like we lost two points. It was a good game, but we made some mistakes and they took advantage to score two goals. It’s unfortunate because when we defend well, we don’t score and now we’re able to score, but concede at bad times.”

On keeping balance defensively
“When we attack, we need to be conscious of how we are defensively if we lose the ball. We can ask our defenders to do what we want, but if we’re allowing opponents time to find their striker it makes it tough.”
