Sporting KC announces hires of Marty Nevshemal and Andrea Kimball

Sporting Kansas City is pleased to formally announce the hiring of two new associates, Vice President of Finance Marty Nevshemal and Vice President and General Counsel Andrea Kimball.

Nevshemal will direct the club’s fiscal and accounting functions and oversee the financial planning and analysis of all matters having economic impact to the business. Kimball will oversee all legal matters for Sporting Kansas City, bringing a breadth of knowledge related to contract negotiation, business deals and risk management.

“Sporting Kansas City is well regarded both in Kansas City and across Major League Soccer as an incredibly innovative and fan experience focused club with a very supportive and engaged ownership group,” Nevshemal said. “I am honored and very excited about joining Sporting’s leadership team with a continued focus of growing our brand both locally and nationally.”

“This is an exciting time to be a part of Sporting Kansas City,” Kimball said. “We have a dynamic and innovative team — on the pitch, in the ownership group and the front office — all of whom are committed to delivering an unparalleled experience to our fans.  I could not be more proud and excited to join this organization.”

Nevshemal is a senior finance executive, military veteran, lifelong soccer fan and published author with more than 20 years of business and military leadership experience. He joins Sporting Kansas City from Sprint, where he was Chief Financial Officer of the Network and IT Business Unit for the final three years of a tenure that began in 2000. His other positions at Sprint included operations finance in business sales, corporate marketing and corporate planning as well as investor relations.

After receiving a degree in Finance from the University of Iowa in 1993, Nevshemal entered the officer ranks of the United States Marine Corps with a military occupational specialty of Military Intelligence. He was an active-duty military officer from 1993-1997 and afterwards served in the reserves through 2003.  Marty was named the Marine Corps Intelligence Association’s U.S. Marine Corps Intelligence Officer of the Year in 1996. Upon finishing his active-duty military service, Nevshemal received an MBA in Finance from the Henry B. Tippie School of Management at Iowa.

In addition to his passions for soccer and finance, Nevshemal’s other interest is military history, which resulted in the publication of his first book in July 2015.

In early 2016, Nevshemal’s leadership was extended civically as he joined the Board of Directors as a Trustee of Kansas City’s world-renown National World War I Museum and Memorial. He is also head coach of the competitive youth soccer team Dragons FC in the north Kansas City area.

Kimball has 20 years of experience in entertainment and sports law and has represented companies and celebrities in a wide range of business and IP disputes. Before joining Sporting Kansas City, she was a Dentons U.S. LLP partner at the Kansas City office for six years, specializing in complex commercial litigation and intellectual property. Kimball was a partner at Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps in San Diego from 1999-2010 after serving a two-year judicial clerkship with the United States District Court in the same city.

Kimball has earned several recognitions during her career, most recently being named to the Legal 500 in 2015 as a Top Employee Benefits / ERISA Litigation Attorney and as a US IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property. She was a three-time California State Pro Bono Award winner, a two time Top Attorneys of San Diego finalist, and received a Missouri Rising Star Award from Superlawyers in 2014.

Outside of Sporting Kansas City, Kimball resides in the Northland and is actively involved in the local community through a variety of activities including coaching youth sports. She is an Advisory Board Member at WIN for KC, an affiliate of the Kansas City Sports Commission, and has been on the KC Legal Board of Directors since 2011. Kimball is also a member of the Women Athletes Business Network and The Central Exchange of Kansas City.

A University of Toledo College of Law graduate in 1997, Kimball majored in Business and Political Science as an undergraduate at Western Michigan University. She also played four years of college basketball, one year of college softball and was named the university’s top female scholar athlete. Following college Kimball played basketball in the inaugural season of the NWBL in San Diego.
