The Swope Park Rangers return home to take on Orange County Blues FC on Saturday night at Swope Soccer Village. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and the game will be available via live stream on SportingKC.com, while tickets are available here.
Due to the anticipated hot weather on Saturday, fans will be permitted to bring one 20-ounce or smaller sealed water bottle into the stadium. Please note the cap will be removed at the gate.
The Rangers enter the weekend with a 6-8-4 (22 pts.) record following Wednesday’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. SPR, who are currently in ninth place in the Western Conference, fell behind in the 61st minute after a sharp turn and finish from Switchbacks midfielder Mike Seth. Deep into second-half stoppage time, SPR substitute Alex Molano stepped up to curl a free kick into the top corner and earn the Rangers a valuable point on the road.
Orange County currently sit in 11th place in the Western Conference after also posting a 6-8-4 (22 pts.) record, though they remain below the Rangers who have a superior goal difference. In their most recent outing, the Blues fell 2-1 to OKC Energy FC, with all three goals coming in the first half. Kansas City native Michael Thomas put OKC ahead in the 22nd minute but the Blues hit back immediately through Trevin Caesar. In the 34th minute, Wojciech Wojcik scored what would end up being the deciding goal for the Energy.
Saturday’s game is the only meeting between the two sides this season, while each team can break into the playoff positions with a victory. The Rangers will remain home next weekend when they host San Antonio FC at Swope Soccer Village, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
