Game Preview: Swope Park Rangers travel to Saint Louis FC

Meyer vs. SA2

The Swope Park Rangers return to action on Wednesday, Aug. 3 when they head across Missouri for a matchup with Saint Louis FC at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be available via live stream on SportingKC.com.

The Rangers enter Wednesdayā€™s matchup with a 8-8-4 (28 pts.) record after recording back-to-back home wins in their last two games. After beating Orange County Blues FC 3-0 on July 23, SPR continued their good form with the sideā€™s first-ever comeback victory on Saturday night against San Antonio.

The Rangers fell behind in the 30th minute to a Michael Reed goal but responded well after halftime. In the 71st minute, substitutes Ayrton and Dane Kelly combined as the latter headed in off the underside of the crossbar to make the score 1-1. Thirteen minutes later, leading scorer Mark Anthony Gonzalez notched the seventh goal of his rookie season to ensure the Rangers claimed all three points and moved up to seventh in the USL Western Conference standings.

Saint Louis FC sits one point and one place back of the Rangers, having gone 7-8-6 (27 pts.) in 2016. Most recently, STL played to a goalless draw with regional rival OKC Energy FC on Saturday night. Saint Louis has won just once in their last six games, having gone 1-3-2 in the month of July.

The two sides have split the season series to this point, with Saint Louis claiming the first-ever meeting 3-0 on May 7 behind goals from Schillo Tshuma, Chad Bond and Irvin Herrera. On July 2, the Rangers hit back in a weather-delayed matchup after Tyler Pasherā€™s early goal sealed a 1-0 win.

The Rangers will have a quick turnaround following Wednesdayā€™s game as they head to Tulsa to take on the Roughnecks on Saturday night at ONEOK Field, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
