Team of the Week: Dom Dwyer's double gives Sporting KC much-needed point at FC Dallas

For the third time in eight weeks, Dom Dwyer was named among Major League Soccer's best players.

The Sporting Kansas City striker bagged a second-half brace on Saturday, propelling his side to a well-earned 2-2 draw at MLS Supporters' Shield leaders FC Dallas. An opportunistic finish with his weaker right foot leveled proceedings in the 68th minute, while his clinical left-footed strike fired Sporting Kansas City ahead five minutes later.

It should come as little surprise, then, that Dwyer landed Team of the Week recognition from MLSsoccer.com and Bleacher Report on Monday.

FC Dallas would draw level before the final whistle, but Dwyer's leading role in securing a precious point remained evident. The 26-year-old was voted AT&T Man of the Match on the Sporting KC Uphoria mobile app, recording game-highs in shots (six) and shots on target (three). Dwyer now has four multi-goal games this season, one shy of Bradley Wright-Phillips for the league lead, and is tied for third in MLS with 12 goals in 2016.

Now in his fifth season with Sporting Kansas City, Dwyer tallied his 49th and 50th MLS goals on Saturday (including postseason). He is the youngest active player in MLS to have scored at least 50 goals and becomes the first player in club history to record at least 12 goals in three straight regular seasons.

Dwyer and Sporting Kansas City begin their 2016-17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League campaign Tuesday night at Central FC in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago. Kickoff at Ato Boldon Stadium is set for 7 p.m. CT, and an English-language live stream of the match will be available on CONCACAF's official Facebook page. Univision Deportes Network will also air a live Spanish telecast.
