Sporting Kansas City Academy defender Cameron Duke has been called in to the U.S. Under-16 National Team for a training camp in Davis, Calif., that started on Sept. 3 and will run through Sept. 10. During the camp, the U.S. U-16s take on U-18 teams from Juventus Sport Club, Sacramento Republic, Clovis Crossfire and Sacramento United.
Duke is one of 36 players called in by head coach Shaun Tsakiris, and was a part of the group that topped Juventus Sport Club 5-3 before also facing Sacramento Republic in a doubleheader last night at Bonney Field in Sacramento, Calif. The U-16s will take part in a second doubleheader on Saturday against Clovis Crossfire and Sacramento United at the campus of UC Davis.
Cameron Duke, who is the younger brother of Swope Park Rangers captain Christian Duke, joined the Sporting KC Academy ahead of the 2012-13 season, advancing to the U-16s and making 24 appearances for the side in the 2015-16 Development Academy season – including starts in all three Development Academy Playoff games.
The 15-year-old Olathe, Kan. native is taking part in his first U.S. U-16s camp, having been invited to seven previous camps and tournaments with the U.S. Youth National Teams: six with the U-14s and one with the U-15s.
