Prep Talk: Sporting KC vs Houston Dynamo - Sept. 9, 2016

Roger Espinoza - Sporting KC at Houston Dynamo - June 29, 2016

Ahead of tonight's home matchvs Houston, we spoke with Dynamo broadcaster Glenn Davis to get his thoughts on the match. Tonight's match kicks off at 7 p.m. CT on UniMas, 38 The Spot, and Sports Radio 810 WHB.

What are your thoughts on Friday’s match?

It's important to both teams in differing ways. Sporting KC are fighting for the playoffs while for the Dynamo many unanswered questions dangle around the club. Who will be the manager? What players stay and go? You can't sugar coat this season, it has been a bust. I expect to see the Dynamo fight for livelihood.

What changes have you seen in the Dynamo since interim Head Coach Wade Barrett took over?

They are more compact and better defensively. Wade is a bright man trying to build a culture.  The big question is how ultimately this team focuses on being more dangerous during the run of play which to me is the essence of soccer/football.

Mauro Manotas scored two goals against Sporting KC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup earlier this summer. What’s the potential for Manotas and could he be a major factor in Friday’s match?

He needs the experience and game with Torres off to Cruz Azul and Will Bruin injured. He has wonderful potential as a mobile striker and the ability to get turned. I suspect he plays here on out to accelerate his development. It's a no-brainer.

Who are some other Houston players to watch for Friday’s match?

I suspect Wade Barrett will continue to utilize loan players to assess like defender Keyner Brown, Midfielder Yair Arboleda and Jose Escalante. They will need to make decisions on these players in December.

What are your thoughts on the Western Conference and looking ahead to the end of the regular season?

It has been an interesting season with peaks and valleys, injury now playing a part. FC Dallas remains the best story for me despite have their best player arguably in attack moved, in Fabian Castillo. They just march on. The league is changing and some are having trouble staying competitive for a variety of reasons. That said, anyone can win in any given day.
