Sporting Kansas City might not have a game, but there is no shortage of live soccer to watch in Kansas City this weekend. The Generation adidas Cup Central Region Fall Event kicked off Friday afternoon with three matches at Swope Soccer Village. The Chicago Fire, FC Dallas and Sporting KC Academy U-16 teams earned victories in the first day of the tournament.

In the first match of today’s tripleheader, the Chicago Fire U-16s defeated the Sporting KC U-18s 2-0. Sporting KC's U-18 team is competing this weekend to give the U-17 tournament an even number of teams, but they cannot place in the overall standings. Edson Murguia and Alan Salmeron tallied goals for the Fire in Friday’s victory.

In the second match of the day, the FC Dallas U-16s played against the Columbus Crew U-16s. FC Dallas are off to a strong start to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy season with a 3-0-0 record and a +9 goal against average. The reigning USSDA national champions made short work of the Crew, defeating the MLS Academy side 4-0 behind goals from Alberto Carrillo, Cole Guindon, Alonso Molina and Paxton Pomykal.

In the final match of the day, the Sporting KC Academy U-16s defeated the Houston Dynamo U-16s 3-2. Ronaldo Gonzalez gave the visitors a lead in the 10th minute, but Mason Visconti responded with two goals before halftime. Grayson Barber added to Sporting KC’s lead with a well-placed finish in the 62nd minute. 14-year-old Marcelo Palomino pulled one back for the Dynamo, but goalkeeper Alex Brown made a big stop off a corner kick in the 79th minute to preserve the victory for the home side.

All six teams will be in action on Saturday with matches at 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Click here for full tournament details.
