A Sporting Legend has returned to American soccer as Saint Louis FC announced Preki as their new head coach on Wednesday. Preki most recently managed USL side Sacramento Republic FC, leading the club to the USL championship in 2014 before departing midway through the 2015 campaign.

Preki was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2010 and into Sporting Legends in 2013. He is Kansas City’s all-time leader in goals scored (71) and assists (98), won MLS MVP twice (1997 and 2003) and won three trophies with the club (2000 MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield and 2004 U.S Open Cup).

Saint Louis FC plays in the USL alongside the Swope Park Rangers. The two teams met four times in 2016 with the Rangers finishing 1-1-2 against their in-state rival.
