Sporting KC defender Erik Palmer-Brown scored his first professional goal over the weekend in Porto B’s Premier League International Cup win over Leicester City. The Lee’s Summit native has featured in five straight matches for Porto B including three in the Portuguese second division.

Porto B is currently second in their group in the 2016-17 Premier League International Cup, a tournament that pits the top U-23 sides from the English Premier League as well as select U-23 teams from around Europe. The top team from each group advances to the knockout stage as well as the top two second-place finishers. Porto B is also in 10th place in the Portuguese second division after winning the league title last season.

Palmer-Brown’s loan to Porto runs through the end of 2016. The Sporting KC homegrown defender appeared in 10 matches last year and was part of the Porto B side that was the first reserve team since 1983/84 Real Madrid to win a league title.

Palmer-Brown missed the first two months of this season after breaking the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. That is the same injury that ended his season with Sporting KC in 2014.
