Sporting KC unveils 2017 preseason schedule

Roger Espinoza - Sporting KC

Sporting Kansas City has finalized the club’s match schedule for the 2017 preseason, presented by Children’s Mercy. All six games will come against fellow MLS sides at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona.

For the third straight year, Sporting Kansas City will spend both phases of preseason training in Tucson, first reporting from Jan. 23 – Feb. 7 and then from Feb. 14-25. The first stint in Arizona will include friendlies against the San Jose Earthquakes on Jan. 31 and the New England Revolution on Feb. 7, with both matches kicking off at noon CT.

Following a brief return to Kansas City, Manager Peter Vermes’ men will revisit Tucson to compete in the Desert Diamond Cup. The preseason tournament will see Sporting KC face the Colorado Rapids (Feb. 15), New York Red Bulls (Feb. 18), New England (Feb. 22) and a team to be determined on Feb. 25. All four Desert Diamond Cup matches will be streamed live on SportingKC.com.

The sixth edition of the Desert Diamond Cup will involve six MLS clubs: Sporting KC, New England, Colorado, the Red Bulls, New York City FC and the Houston Dynamo. Sporting KC competed in the inaugural Desert Diamond Cup in 2011 and was also a member of the 2015 and 2016 tournament fields.

Sporting Kansas City fans can purchase general admission tickets to Desert Diamond Cup matches on Feb. 18 and 25. Click here and enter the discount code SPORTING to receive 15 percent off both games. In addition, out-of-town guests can click here to purchase MLS Preseason hotel and experience packages.

At least 39 players will join Sporting Kansas City for preseason training – the 27 players currently under contract, unsigned MLS SuperDraft picks Colton Storm and David Greczek, trialist Lebo Moloto, and nine Swope Park Rangers players.
