Team of the Week: Sinovic, Dwyer, Opara and Espinoza receive weekly honors

Following last night’s comprehensive 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids at Children’s Mercy Park, a total of four Sporting KC players have earned Team of the Week recognition.

Center back Ike Opara and midfielder Roger Espinoza each claimed spots on MLSSoccer.com’s Team of the Week. Opara was a force in the Sporting KC backline yet again, making a team-high five tackles to go along with two clearances and an interception.

It was Espinoza who played through the incisive through ball to set up Gerso’s game-winner in the 58th minute, and the Honduran also had a 91.8 percent passing accuracy – the highest on the team.

Left back Seth Sinovic and forward Dom Dwyer – both goalscorers on Sunday night – received recognition in Goal.com’s Team of the Week. Seventh-year veteran Sinovic plundered home his first-ever regular-season goal in just the sixth minute to open the scoring, before setting up Dwyer’s goal with a perfectly placed low cross late in the contest.

Not to be outdone, Dwyer also tallied a goal and an assist on the day, first helping set up Gerso’s goal in the second half before knocking home his 53rd regular-season goal in Sporting KC colors to make the points safe.
