Swope Park Rangers Historical Timeline

October 22, 2015 - Swope Park Rangers confirmed as the 30th USL franchise in an announcement at Starlight Theatre. The club, affiliated with Sporting Kansas City, will begin play in the 2016 USL season.

November 20, 2015 - Marc Dos Santos announced as club’s head coach heading into inaugural season. Midfielder Christian Duke also announced as club’s first-ever signing from OKC Energy FC.

January 13, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers round out coaching staff with the additions of Nikola Popovic as an assistant coach and Alec Dufty as a goalkeeper coach.

February 8, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers hold club’s first-ever training session at Chiefs Indoor Facility.

February 17, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers play club’s first-ever preseason game, winning 3-1 against the Colorado Rapids in the Desert Diamond Cup behind goals from Kris Tyrpak, Alberto Sanchez and Will Little.

March 26, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers win their inaugural game, 2-1 against Portland Timbers 2 at Children’s Mercy Park. Midfielder Kevin Oliveira is the club’s first-ever goalscorer, while Daniel Salloi scored the game-winner.

April 27, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers play first-ever game at Swope Soccer Village, falling to a 2-1 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. Kris Tyrpak scored his first goal of the season in the loss.

May 7, 2016 - 16-year-old defender Jaylin Lindsey makes his debut off the bench in 3-0 defeat to Saint Louis FC, becoming the first American player born in the 2000s to make his professional debut.

June 8, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers record first-ever shutout and biggest win of the season with 4-0 thrashing of Rio Grande Valley FC at Swope Soccer Village. Kevin Oliveira has a goal and three assists in the win, earning himself USL Player of the Week honors.

July 28, 2016 - Kansas City proclaims Saturday, July 30, 2016 as Swope Park Rangers Appreciation Day. Head coach Marc Dos Santos and captains Christian Duke and Jon Kempin are in attendance for the City Council meeting. The Rangers win their game on Swope Park Rangers Appreciation Day 2-1 against San Antonio FC with goals from Dane Kelly and Mark Anthony Gonzalez.

August 4, 2016 - Kevin Oliveira ranked number two in the USL's 20-Under-20 list, being named the second best U-20 player in the league behind Victor Mansaray of Seattle Sounders FC 2.

August 16, 2016  - Amer Didic becomes first Swope Park Rangers player to appear for Sporting Kansas City, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw with Central FC in the CONCACAF Champions League.

August 17, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers announce that head coach Marc Dos Santos will depart the club at the conclusion of the 2016 USL season to join NASL expansion team the San Francisco Deltas.

September 18, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers clinch a berth in the USL Cup Playoffs in their inaugural season with a 3-0 victory over OKC Energy FC at Taft Stadium.

September 27, 2016 - Amer Didic named to the USL Team of the Week for a league-best sixth time.

September 30, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers win their first-ever Playoff game with a 3-0 victory over LA Galaxy II in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

October 8, 2016 - Amer Didic named Rangers Defensive Player of the Year and Mark Anthony Gonzalez named Offensive Player of the Year at Sporting Kansas City’s annual Pitch Black awards night.

October 9, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers emerge victorious in the Western Conference Semifinal with a 2-1 win over Orange County Blues FC after extra time. Defenders Ever Alvarado and Tommy Meyer were sent off in the 69th and 88th minutes as the team was forced to play all of extra time with nine men but advanced with Dane Kelly’s 105th-minute goal.

October 15, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers claim the club’s first silverware and advance to the 2016 USL Cup Final with a 3-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in the USL Western Conference Final behind two goals from Kris Tyrpak and a late strike from Dane Kelly.

October 18, 2016 - Amer Didic named to the USL All-League First Team.

October 19, 2016 - Amer Didic named a finalist for USL Defender of the Year while Marc Dos Santos named a finalist for USL Coach of the Year.

October 23, 2016 - Swope Park Rangers suffers a 5-1 defeat to New York Red Bulls II in the USL Cup Final at Red Bull Arena. Midfielder Tomas Granitto scored the Rangers’ lone goal to make the score 2-1 in the 74th minute.

November 21, 2016 - Nikola Popovic is introduced as Swope Park Rangers head coach after serving as an assistant coach in the club’s inaugural season in 2016.

December 2, 2016 - Adrian Zendejas and Tyler Pasher become the first Swope Park Rangers players to sign MLS contracts with Sporting Kansas City.
