Black & Veatch growSTEM Partners are key to STEM education success
With an estimated $40 trillion needed for vital energy, water and communications infrastructure over the next 30 years, the need for students with a passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is more important than ever. As part of its growSTEM initiative, global engineering and construction company Black & Veatch is rising to meet that demand by placing STEM education at the heart of its philanthropic efforts.
A new partnership between Black & Veatch and Sporting Kansas City, in collaboration with the KC STEM Alliance and the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools, breaks new ground by uniting influential organizations to champion the importance of STEM education:
In a first-of-its-kind partnership, Black & Veatch has joined Major League Soccer franchise Sporting Kansas City for the 2015-2019 MLS seasons to promote STEM to Kansas City, Kansas, middle-school students.
Playing a key role in the partnership and furthering its own mission to expand STEM opportunities to its students, the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools will host exciting summer camps featuring SKC players. They will join Black & Veatch professionals to demonstrate STEM concepts and help develop problem-solving skills in middle school students. The camps will offer STEM-related curriculum highlighted by a challenge specifically focused on Sporting Park.
In addition to Black & Veatch, SKC and KCKPS, the camps are organized and supported by Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a leading provider of STEM education to middle and high schools across the United States. Through its partnership with KC STEM Alliance, Black & Veatch supports PTLW in the classroom by providing mentors and speakers to classes. The company participates on advisory boards within several PLTW school districts and the Academy of Engineering.
As a global industry leader whose professionals are eager to share their knowledge with the next generation of problem solvers, Black & Veatch is uniquely positioned to carry the STEM message to young people.
