The United States can advance to the final around of 2014 World Cup Qualifying with a draw or win against Guatemala on Tuesday at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. Graham Zusi had a solid performance in Friday's match (at Antigua & Barbuda) and is likely to start Tuesday's match.
United States v Guatemala (Oct 16)
It will be a different match on Tuesday with the USA having a solid home field advantage at LSP. The USA has not lost a home World Cup Qualifier in 21 matches and have won both home matches in this round of qualifying. Both teams have 10 points and could advance with any result from Tuesday's match but a draw would see both teams into the next round (at the expense of Jamaica) and a win for either side would clinch 1st place in Group A.
Guatemala has struggled to beat the United States with no wins since the mid 1980's. The USA have won their last five home World Cup Qualifying matches against Guatemala and has had clean sheets (shutouts) in three of the last four meetings.
A strong start for the USA is expected with a sold out crowd and KC's Zusi in the starting 11. The conditions will be vastly improved from Friday (played on cricket field in Antigua) with the weather expected to be in the 70s with no rain and 10-15 mph wind. Zusi has usually played in a right midfield position but did move around during the Antigua match. He'll probably take most of the corner kicks along with most free kicks around goal. Depending on how the match unfolds, Zusi could start and play the entire 90 minutes or be subbed off in the second half (especially if USA has a lead).
The match will start at 6 PM CT with ESPN2's coverage starting at 5:30 PM CT.
