Affiliates in Action: Energy FC win 2-0 in Medranda's debut

Sporting KC has partnered with USL PRO clubs Orlando City SC and OKC Energy FC for the 2014 season. As part of the agreement, Sporting KC will loan players to the clubs to play games and gain experience throughout the year. Each week, we’ll recap the performances of the Sporting KC players on loan.

Midfielder Jimmy Medranda made his USL PRO debut in OKC Energy FC’s 2-0 win over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday in Oklahoma City.

Jimmy Nielsen’s squad extended its unbeaten streak to seven games as goals from Dan Delgado and former Sporting KC midfielder Michael Thomas—both assisted by former Sporting KC trialist Adda Djeziri—decided the contest in the first 20 minutes.

The victory lifted Energy FC (6-7-3, 21 points) into a tie for seventh place in the USL PRO standings with 12 matches remaining in the regular season. Medranda, who was loaned to Energy FC on Wednesday, started and played 54 minutes in midfield.

Energy FC was without goalkeeper Jon Kempin, who was recalled to Sporting KC on Wednesday after Eric Kronberg injured the fourth metacarpal in his left hand during training. Midfielder Christian Duke remains out of action as he recovers from a stress fracture.

Energy FC registered its fourth straight clean sheet concludes a six-game home stand with two matches at Pribil Stadium this week. Arizona United SC visits on Thursday before a quick turnaround against Los Angeles Galaxy II on Saturday.
