In his first MLS match since starting all four games for the United States at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the centerback captained his team to its third victory over the Montreal Impact this season, this time by a 2-1 scoreline.
Besler made an instant impact in the game, earning the seventh assist of his MLS career with a trademark long throw-in that Dom Dwyer headed home in the fourth minute. He proceeded to lead a defense that limited Montreal to just two shots on goal and four scoring chances.
Dwyer notched his third brace of the season against the Impact in as many games and became the first player to score six goals against the same opponent in a single regular season during the MLS expansion era (2005-present). The 23-year-old Englishman led all players with five shots, four shots on target and—of course—two goals that put Sporting KC within two points of Eastern Conference leaders D.C. United.
