Two Sporting KC players named to MLS Team of the Week

MLS Player of the Week Benny Feilhaber wasn’t the only one to receive individual recognition after Sporting Kansas City’s two victories against the Columbus Crew and LA Galaxy.

Joining Feilhaber on’s Team of the Week was right back Igor Juliao, who earns such honors for the first time in his career. The 19-year-old Brazilian notched his first Sporting KC assist on Wednesday against Columbus, teeing up Feilhaber’s 93rd-minute game winner to atone for his own goal earlier in the second half. On Saturday against LA Galaxy, he led all players with 10 duels won.

Feilhaber netted spectacular strikes in both wins—a Goal of the Week nominee in second half stoppage time at Columbus and an early free kick against LA—to score in consecutive matches for the first time in his MLS career. He also assisted C.J. Sapong’s header against the Crew with a corner kick just before halftime. Bleacher Report, and Sports Illustrated all included the 29-year-old on their weekly Best XI lists.

Fresh off signing a new Designated Player contract with his hometown club, defender Matt Besler also landed a spot on’s Team of the Week. Besler led all players with four interceptions on Saturday and anchored a backline that limited LA to just two shots on goal.
