Affiliates in Action: Energy FC find their scoring boots in consecutive road games

OKC Energy FC earned a pair of road results last week and climbed into a sixth place tie in the USL PRO standings. Jimmy Nielsen’s side (7-8-5, 26 points) has lost just once in 11 games after drawing the Harrisburg City Islanders 3-3 on Wednesday and dispatching the Dayton Dutch Lions 3-0 on Saturday.

Midfielder Jimmy Medranda started and played 78 minutes against Dayton after featuring in the second half of Sporting Kansas City’s 4-1 Champions Shield defeat to Manchester City at midweek.

Harrisburg jumped to a 2-0 lead after 23 minutes on Wednesday, but OKC roared back with three goals in the final eight minutes of the first half—one from Danchris Delgado and a pair from Kyle Greig. Harrisburg’s 84th-minute equalizer split the points.

Former Sporting KC midfielder Michael Thomas notched his fifth goal of the 2014 campaign on Saturday as Energy FC converted three of their four shots on goal. Greig and Paul Wyatt were also on the scorecard as Medranda contributed one shot on target.

At the end of May, Energy FC was 13th in the 14-team USL PRO standings but has rallied during the middle third of the season, going 5-1-5. With eight matches left in the regular season, Nielsen’s squad is two points safe in the eight-team playoff picture.

Energy FC returns home this Saturday to host the eighth-placed Orange County Blues (8-12-0, 24 points) at Pribil Stadium.
