Loan Lowdown: Mikey Lopez starts in OKC Energy FC's 2-2 draw at Austin Aztex

Sporting KC continues its partnership with OKC Energy FC for the 2015 season, loaning midfielder Mikey Lopez to our USL affiliate. Additionally, homegrown goalkeeper Jon Kempin and rookie defender Saad Abdul-Salaam have been loaned to the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League. Each week, we’ll recap the performances of the Sporting KC players in our Loan Lowdown series.

Mikey Lopez returned to his home state of Texas on Friday and was once again in the starting lineup for head coach Jimmy Nielsen as OKC Energy FC (2-1-2) earned a 2-2 draw at the Austin Aztex (3-3-1) in a USL match-up between Western Conference foes. The 22-year-old midfielder played 61 minutes in his fifth straight start for Sporting Kansas City's USL affiliate in front of 2,696 fans at House Park.

BOX SCORE: OKC 2, ATX 2

Danni König opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season in the 16th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead, but Austin's Drew Yates struck twice in a five-minute span to overturn the deficit. The equalizer would not come until the 87th minute when Kyle Greig -- a Benedictine College and Kansas City Brass product -- directed his header past Cody Laurendi.

While Lopez exited the match in the 61st minute, a familiar face entered in the 66th minute for the Aztex. Tony Rocha, who was drafted 73rd overall by Sporting Kansas City in the fourth round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, made his seventh appearance of 2015 in his first professional campaign.

OKC Energy FC will now return home to host LA Galaxy II (2-3-1) -- led by former KC manager Curt Onalfo -- on Saturday, May 9. All USL matches are streamed live on YouTube in 2015 and play-by-play updates are available via @EnergyGameday on Twitter.

In the NASL, Saad Abdul-Salaam and Jon Kempin were unused substitutes in the San Antonio Scorpions (0-3-1) 2-1 loss to expansion side Jacksonville Armada FC (2-2-0) on Saturday at Community First Park. Omar Cummings scored his third goal of the season with a highlight-worthy scissors kick to level the score at 1-1 in the eighth minute but Keita buried the game-winner in the 93rd minute to keep San Antonio at the bottom of the NASL's spring season table.

The Scorpions will look for their first win of the year next Saturday when they host the Carolina RailHawks (1-1-3) at Toyota Field.
