Sporting Kansas City defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 1-1 (5-4 in PK shootout) on August 9, 2017 to advance to the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final.

San Jose grabbed an early lead with a fourth minute goal from Danny Hoesen but Sporting KC equalized with a 32nd minute Diego Rubio strike. After the the match remained tied after 120 minutes, Sporting KC advanced 5-4 via penalty kick shootout.

Sporting KC will host the winner of FC Cincinnati/NY Red Bulls on September 20 at Children's Mercy Park (Kickoff time TBD).
