The odds are good that DaMarcus Beasley won’t be making a return to Major League Soccer any time this summer.
His brother, however, might be another story.
According to DaMarcus Beasley’s Twitter account, Jamar Beasley is on the verge of a MLS comeback and is expected to sign a deal with the Kansas City Wizards on Friday.
DaMarcus Beasley tweeted the following on Thursday afternoon:“BIG up to my big brother..Is Signing for Kansas City Wizards tmrw!! Knew he could do it..I'm proud of u bro..”
Wizards officials did not comment on whether Jamar Beasley will sign with the team, but they confirmed the 30-year-old is on trial with the team and has trained with Kansas City over the past few days.
Jamar Beasley began his career with the New England Revolution and Chicago Fire, appearing in 59 games and scoring seven goals from 1998 to 2001. When he signed with the Revolution in 1998, he was the youngest player to sign with MLS at the time and the first player to sign directly out of high school.
After leaving the league in 2001, he enjoyed a short stint in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) before bouncing around between various indoor soccer teams, including a stint with the Kansas City Comets. He also represented the United States in the 2008 Futsal World Cup in Brazil and most recently played professionally with the Rockford Rampage in Illinois.
Wizards assistant coach Zoran Savic coached the elder Beasley during his time with the Comets.
