Kamara, Thomas Called to National Teams

Kamara Celebration v Man Utd

Two Kansas City Wizards players have received national team calls for upcoming matches. Striker Kei Kamara announced yesterday on Twitter that he will be joining Sierra Leone for an upcoming game, while the Wizards have learned that Shavar Thomas is in line to represent Jamaica in a pair matches.

Kamara will depart next week and represent his country September 5 against defending African champions Egypt in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in Cairo. He has appeared four times in official competitions for Sierra Leone.

"It's a good opportunity to play for the national team and wear my country's colors," Kamara said. "That's all I've ever wanted to do. It's going to be great to play against Egypt. This will be the biggest game I've ever played for Sierra Leone."

Thomas will depart after Kansas City's match Saturday, September 4 at the Philadelphia Union. Jamaica hosts Costa Rica September 5 in Kingston, before facing Peru Tuesday, September 7 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

"Every time you play for your national team, it feels like the first time," Thomas said. "It's a tremendous honor, and I'm especially excited to play in front of the home fans in Jamaica."
