Quote Sheet: Kansas City 2, Chivas USA 0

Peter Vermes still has a few loose ends to tie up before kick off of the 2010 season.

Kansas City Wizards Manager Peter Vermes
On the match:

“I think the field is conducive to the way that we like to play. We are an athletic team, and because of that, it opens up the field to the way that we want to play. The one thing that was really good for us tonight was our pressing the entire way up the field. It made it very difficult for Chivas to come out of the back.”

On making the Playoffs:
“We can hope that everyone else does our job for us, but at the end of the day, we have to go and get results. If you make the Playoffs and then cannot play after that, you get knocked out in the first round. We have to be able to play everywhere, and get results.”

Kansas City Wizards Striker Kei Kamara
On the match:

“It was a great win. We have eight games left in the season, and we know what we have to do if we want to make it to the Playoffs. We knew that we had to come in her e and battle, so it was a great result for us.”

On the battle in the midfield:
“It is tough when two teams really need to win. When they get on the field, it is always a fight. We had to keep our composure, and in the second half, it was great to get that first win out of the game. We just kept pushing.”

Kansas City Wizards Forward Teal Bunbury
On his goal:

“Kei [Kamara]passed me the ball, and I was one-on-one, and beat my guy. I saw Zach [Thornton] out of the goal, and I just placed it. It was a great ball by Kei. We needed that win.”

On the way Wizards play in the second half:
“We played more aggressive, and our instinct was better in the second half. We knew that we needed to win if we wanted to make the Playoffs.”

Chivas USA Head Coach Martín Vásquez
On the game:

“I’m just upset, frustrated, disappointed, about the result. I thought that, playing at home, after two good performances getting the results, we wanted to continue to have chances going forward. I’m disappointed because we didn’t take advantage of a great opportunity in front of a good crowd.  I’m also very frustrated about losing at home.”

On moving forward after a disappointing loss:
“We have to watch the game again and regroup. We have been inconsistent.  We put a good performance against New England and against Chivas Guadalajara, but inconsistency has been a problem for us.  Today we needed to play good futbol at times but mainly we needed to get the result and we didn’t do that.  We need to regroup and I thought there are still a lot of positives.  Again, a lack of concentration and personal mistakes affected us, and today, that’s what happened.”

Chivas USA Forward Justin Braun
On the match:

“It was a bad performance overall, we couldn’t connect the passes; I think it comes down to consistency; we were trying to be as consistent as possible. Tonight wasn’t our night, we didn’t deserve to win, and it’s unfortunate.”

Chivas USA Defender Mariano Trujillo
On the result:

“We couldn’t create any chances. We made mistakes and they punished us in the end. Our goal was to win our last seven games and, obviously, we couldn’t win today.  It’s tough but we still have six games and we’re going to play those games as if they’re a final, and at the end we’ll see where we are. It’s kind of hard to say what we need, but, like I said we just need to keep thinking about our next game and at the end of the season we’ll see.”
