Sporting Loses Conrad, Wolff to Re-Entry

Sporting Kansas City would like to wish Josh Wolff and Jimmy Conrad good luck after long-standing service to the club. Wolff and Conrad, both 12-year veterans of MLS, each began their Kansas City careers in 2003 and played key roles in the 2004 season when the club won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and won its third Conference Championship en route to reaching the MLS Cup.


Wolff was the first player selected in the Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Process Wednesday and will join D.C. United for the 2011 season. Chivas USA selected Conrad with the 2nd selection and will now negotiate with the player. Kansas City selected former Columbus Crew defender Frankie Hejduk with the 8th selection, then traded Hejduk's rights to Los Angeles later in the day for the rights to Luke Sassano.


Conrad spent eight seasons in Kansas City, playing in 204 regular season games and recording 13 goals and four assists to bring his career totals to 19 goals and 10 assists in 288 regular season games. In addition to being named MLS Defender of the Year in 2005, Conrad was a four-time selection to the League’s annual Best XI team and was voted to the MLS All-Star game in five consecutive seasons (2004-08). Conrad was the 2009 MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Year, an honor he won four times at the team level, and he was also named 2008 Team MVP and a two-time winner for Team Defender of the Year. He was a member and former captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team and represented the US at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, 2005 and 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cups and 2007 Copa America.

Wolff spent seven seasons in Kansas City, playing in 144 regular season games and recording 43 goals and 26 assists to bring his career totals to 75 goals and 41 assists in 228 regular season games. Wolff ranks second on Sporting Kansas City’s all-time goals scored chart and was a three-time team MVP (2004, 2005 and 2009) and two-time MLS All-Star (2002 and 2004). He was a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team, 2002 and 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup teams, and 2002 and 2006 U.S. FIFA World Cup squads.
