NEW YORK – Three lucky MLS clubs will land highly rated prospects just in time for preseason as three separate weighted player lotteries determine the fate of Cody Arnoux (pictured above), Chris Agorsor and Korey Veeder.
The league uses the lottery mechanism for: 1) players who have completed their college eligibility and sign after the SuperDraft; 2) underclassmen who sign Generation adidas contracts after the SuperDraft; and 3) players who were previously offered MLS contracts and did not sign.
The lotteries will take place over the next five days, beginning with the Arnoux lottery Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET. The Agorsor lottery is tentatively scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET on Monday, Feb. 14, while Veeder will find out his MLS club at the same time on Feb. 15.
Each MLS club has the option of withdrawing from participation in each lottery. The teams' percentage chances, which are calculated by taking into account a team’s record over its last 30 regular season games, will be adjusted ahead of each of the three lotteries based on the number of teams that participate.
The San Jose Earthquakes landed goalkeeper David Bingham in the first lottery of the year and are automatically precluded from participating in future lotteries during the MLS season.
