QUOTES: Reaction from Vancouver after draw

Michael Harrington versus Vancouver

Sporting Kansas City

Manager Peter Vermes...
“The first 20 minutes I thought we were solid. Our goalkeeper was outstanding, and we had some great chances. There was a lot of rubber on that turf and we got fatigued. They kept coming – finished off with three great balls, and came back. I’m proud of our guys – to score three goals on the road is pretty solid. But even as fatigued as we were, we need to do a better job of holding the game.”

Striker Teal Bunbury...
“It was disappointing – bottom line. We shouldn’t have let them back in the game. They’re a great team but we had the lead and we have to learn to stay composed. My job is to score goals and I got lots of opportunities. I thought our guys played well, but we need to stay focused and stay together as a team.”

Goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen...
“It’s definitely disappointing for everyone right now. Of course a positive was that we scored three goals. But it’s not good enough – we were up 3-0 with 15 minutes to go. Credit to Vancouver with the power they had putting the ball behind our back four.”

Captain Davy Arnaud...
“I don’t know if I’ve ever been a part of a game like that before, honestly. Teal scored an important goal for us in the first half. Credit to Vancouver – they kept going. To get two after the 90th minute, hats off to them but at the same time we have to look at ourselves. It’s not good enough for us. At the end of the day, it was a point on the road, but we didn’t lock the game down.”

Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Manager Teitur Thordarson on the game...
“I think we played very well. We created a lot of chance. I was very focused at halftime to get the players to stay positive. When we went three nil down it would have been easy to give up, but we kept on going and continued to work and stayed positive as we always do. I think that paid off in the end.
“We have been a little bit unfortunate with injuries and national team duties, so having all of our best players back again will be quite nice.”

On Camilo...
“He isn’t yet game fit, but he is technically good. In and around the box, that’s where he is dangerous, and it was so nice to see that. During the last week of training he had really been showing well."

On Khalfan...
“Technically very good player and he is also very fast. His crosses are very good. He makes it very difficult for the opposition.”

Defender Jonathan Leathers on comeback....
“A lot of teams would give up. It shows the resiliency and character within our team. Obviously that comes from the coaching staff teaching you how to think, how to battle back and how to fight. It’s tremendous to be a part of a game like that. Seeing is believing, so now that I’ve seen it I know we can do it going forward. Momentum can change and anything can happen. But we’ve got to play like that for all 90 minutes.”

On Khalfan and Chiumiento...
“It was a different dynamic. They brought their skill sets and blew the defense away. I give a lot of credit to both of them to come in and make such a big difference.”

Midfielder Wes Knight on the game...
“They’re guys were dropping like flies and we just kept coming. The fans could see it too, and we continued to slowly build momentum. The fans were still up celebrating when we scored that third goal. The crowd was loud when we scored our first franchise goal, but I think that third goal they were even louder. It’s a great confidence boost. It feels like three points right now.

On Camilo...
“It’s sad that the fans don’t get to see him in training because he does that all the time. It’s really good for him to show his effectiveness. 90 plus minutes at striker is not easy on this team.”

On Khalfan and Chiumiento...
“When they came in, they changed the game. They got into the holes that other guys weren’t getting into."
