Following a dramatic 1-1 draw at home with Chivas USA on Saturday, Sporting Kansas City hosts the Richmond Kickers of USL PRO tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. CT in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. 


Tickets for the match are $10 for Sporting Kansas City season ticket members and $15 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased here or at the LIVESTRONG Sporting Park box office. Due to tomorrow’s high temperatures, fans attending Tuesday’s match will be permitted to bring one sealed 20-ounce or smaller bottle of water into the stadium. Gate attendants will remove and keep the caps from all bottles of water prior to fans entrance into the stadium.


Sporting Kansas City enters the quarterfinal round of the tournament by virtue of a 3-0 winover the Chicago Fire PDL on June 28th at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. Teal Bunbury, Milos Stojcev and Kei Kamara scored goals for Sporting Kansas City and Home Grown defender Kevin Ellis made his competitive debut in the victory.


The Kickers arrive in the quarterfinals after upsetting the Columbus Crew 2-1 on June 28th at Crew Stadium in Columbus. Richmond’s Nozomi Hiroyama opened the scoring before Cole Grossman brought the Crew level in the 37th minute. In the second half, Crew midfielder Danny O’Rourke was shown a straight red card and Matt Delicate scored in the 85th minute to seal Richmond’s passage into the quarterfinal round. 


The winner of Tuesday’s contest will advance to the semifinal round of the tournament, set to be held on August 30th, against the winner of the match between the Chicago Fire and the New York Red Bulls. With a victory, Sporting Kansas City will host the semifinal at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. 


The U.S. Open Cup has been held annually since 1914 and is named after Lamar Hunt, original owner of Sporting Kansas City from 1995-2006. Kansas City won the U.S. Open Cup in 2004,defeating the Chicago Fire 1-0 on a golden goal by striker Igor Simutenkov off a free kick in the 95th minute at Arrowhead Stadium on September 22nd, 2004. Current Sporting Kansas City captain Davy Arnaud featured in the starting lineup for Kansas City in the final.
