Following a 4-2 win over Toronto FC last Saturday, Sporting Kansas City will aim to set the record for the longest unbeaten run in club history when they host the New England Revolution Saturday night at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT with live television coverage on KSMO beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT. Saturday’s match is presented by Providence Medical Center.
Sporting Kansas City leads the all-time series against New England with a record of 20-13-8 since the sides first squared off in 1996. 10 of those wins have come at home, where Sporting Kansas City holds a 10-6-3 advantage over the Revolution.
This is the third meeting between the two sides in 2011. On April 23rd, New England topped Sporting Kansas City by a 3-2 scoreline at Gillette Stadium in a match that saw the competitive debut for United States international midfielder Benny Feilhaber in a Revolution uniform. Just over a month later, Chance Myers and C.J. Sapong scored two goals apiece in a 5-0 victory for Sporting Kansas City over New England in the final round of qualifying for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at the Blue Valley District Activities Center.
New England (4-9-8), currently sitting in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, enters Saturday night’s contest following a 2-2 draw with the Colorado Rapids last Saturday. The draw with Colorado followed a 1-0 midweek victory over D.C. United on July 20th.
Revolution manager Steve Nicol could be missing defenders Ryan Cochrane and Kevin Alston for Saturday’s clash. Cochrane is listed as doubtful with pain in his left foot, while Alston is questionable with turf toe in his left foot. Forward Kheli Dube and midfielder Chris Tierney are the only definite absences for New England. Dube is still in the recovery process after suffering a whiplash injury in a car accident on May 22nd, while Tierney will serve a one-match suspension after being sent off against Colorado in his last match for New England.
For Sporting Kansas City, captain Davy Arnaud will be out after undergoing successful sports hernia surgery recently. Midfielder Craig Rocastle is still rehabbing his right knee following a sprain suffered while playing for Grenada at this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup. Aurelien Collin will also miss out following the announcement that the defender has suffered a non-displaced fracture of the transverse process of both the L2 and L3 vertebrae in his lumbar spine.
Tickets for the match are still available, and can be purchased here. KSMO will air a 30-minute pre-game show hosted by play-by-play announcer Callum Williams, in addition to the weekly soccer show on KSMO, ‘Off the Pitch’ with Sporting Kansas City, on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. CT.
Fans are encouraged to arrive to LIVESTRONG Sporting Park as early as possible on Saturday. Prior to the match, ‘The Paperclips’ will perform in the Sprint Plaza as part of the Live at LSP concert series. Additionally, the first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a Teal Bunbury bobblehead doll courtesy of Providence Medical Center.
There will also be a postgame party in the Members' Club featuring a performance from DJ Mike Scott.
