Nielsen wins MLS Save of the Week

Jimmy Nielsen vs Philadelphia Union DL

Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen made a charge for Goalkeeper of the Year award this season, and he closed it out by winning the final Save of the Week of 2011.

The White Puma's quick-reflex kick save on D.C. United’s Stephen King dominated the Week 32 voting, earning more than 41 percent of the tallies. It marks the Danish veteran’s fourth Save of the Week honors of 2011, second only to Kasey Keller’s six. Nielsen also won the award a League-high six times during his 2010 All-Star season.

Nielsen, named the team's 2011 Most Valuable Player, recorded seven clean sheets in 2011 and recorded 12 wins for Sporting Kansas City in 2011, tied for the fourth most among MLS goalkeepers.

The Danish native posted a 1.14 goals against average in 2011, the third-best single-season mark in club history, which improves his career goals against average to 1.15, best among all goalkeepers in club history with at least 4,000 minutes played.
