Sporting Kansas City announced Monday that midfielder Ryan Smith has been traded to Chivas USA in exchange for the club’s first and third round selections in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft.
Smith, 25, appeared in 32 matches in two years for Sporting Kansas City, recording four goals and seven assists over the past two seasons. In 2011, Smith appeared in six matches after returning from offseason knee surgery, but his season was cut short in June after leaving the team for family reasons.
In exchange for the Englishman, Sporting Kansas City will receive Chivas USA’s first round natural and third round natural picks in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft, which will be held on January 17th.
