The Sporting KC Academy U13's are in Libertyville, Illinois this weekend for the
2011-12 MDL Playoffs
. The tournament kicked off on Friday with the top teams from the Midwest Developmental League in competition to qualify for the 2012
National Premier Leagues Champions Cup
, which will be held later this month at Waukegan Sports Park in Waukegan, Ill.
The U13's finished in first place in the Great Lakes Division with a 10-1-1 record to secure their spot at this weekend's tourney. After falling 5-1 in the opening game against Vardar SC, the academy team turned the tables with a 5-1 victory over fellow MLS side Columbus Crew today. The team will play again at 10am CT on Sunday against the Chicago Fire at Libertyville Township Soccer Complex.
