For the second time this year, Aurélien Collin will have to watch a match from the sidelines because of yellow-card accumulation.
The Sporting Kansas City center back is suspended for Saturday’s home match against Toronto FC, after picking up his sixth caution of the year in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against New York. Collin was booked for a bad foul on the Red Bulls’ Heath Pearce.
“It hurts that I must miss the next game, and I’m very upset,” he said. “Sometimes I say too much to the referee and I get too sensitive, but the calls the referee makes are not always right. I have been here one-and-a-half years, and it has been the same problem. I just have to keep my mouth closed.”
After the game, though, Collin said he has faith in whoever will replace him on Saturday.
“I’m not worried about missing the next game,” said Collin, who would have had to miss the U.S. Open Cup Final for card accumulation even if he hadn’t been recovering from facial fractures. “Neven [Markovic] and [Lawrence] Olum are good players.”
Gone to Carolina
Sporting KC’s depth at center back has meant few opportunities for Konrad Warzycha to get game minutes, a situation Manager Peter Vermes hopes to remedy by loaning the converted midfielder to the Carolina RailHawks for the rest of the NASL season.
“It’s a positive opportunity,” Vermes told MLSsoccer.com after Tuesday’s training session. “He goes and gets structured games. He’s going to play in that lineup, every game. That has a competitive value, it has a 90-minute fitness aspect, and we have the ability to call him back at any time we want to.”
Warzycha, who lost his entire rookie season to a knee injury in 2011, had played just one minute as a sub in league action this year. He also had one start and one relief appearance in U.S. Open Cup play.
RailHawks manager Colin Clarke’s experience in MLS – he coached Dallas from 2003-06 – also played into the decision to make the loan, Vermes said.
“I think he’ll help [Warzycha] continue on the same path that we’re giving him here,” Vermes said. “He’s going to have a high expectation of any players that we send to him, and he’s been here in the past watching what we’ve done. I think there’s a pretty good synergy there.”
