Match Recap: Sporting KC 1-1 Columbus

Match Recap: Sporting KC 1-1 Columbus -

Sporting KC remained unbeaten since late July with a 1-1 draw at Columbus. It was a mixed result as Sporting took an early lead but had to settle for a draw by conceding a stoppage time goal.

Great start, not so great finish

The match couldn't have started better for KC as they had a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. Sporting had been 9-1-1 with a halftime lead and were only a few minutes from getting the three points. A defensive lapse in the 91st minute allowed Columbus to equalize and force a draw. There's positives and negatives from this as Sporting continues to have strong starts but conceding in stoppage time (1st ot 2nd half) is never good.

Unbeaten streak still alive

KC's unbeaten streak, which started after losing to Columbus on July 28, is now up to 10 matches. It's an impressive streak which should give them momentum heading into the playoffs. The streak has included several tough matches including two road matches in four days and home matches against the top Eastern Conference sides. This is the time of the season that teams want to be hitting their stride and KC are doing that right now.

Sapong finding his form

CJ Sapong scored the lone goal on Sunday and now has three in his last five matches. The striker will need to continue to score goals with Teal Bunbury's injury (out for season). He struggled during the middle of this season but is starting to find the form that won him 2011 MLS Rookie of the Year. KC have not lost a match this season when Sapong scores a goal.
